Tuition Cost & Financial Aid
Because Kent State University is a public higher learning institution, the tuition for in-state students is significantly less than out-of-state tuition at rates of around $10,600 and $19,500, respectively. Unlike many large, public schools, the difference is slightly less than double rather than triple. This is a great financial advantage to out-of-state students in search of a quality education outside their state of residence.
It’s important to note that all students, regardless of state residence, will require additional finances to cover the basic cost of living, books, supplies, and miscellaneous course fees. These costs can add up to an additional $15,000. If a student has plans to take day trips, spend time off-campus, and participate in local events and entertainment, it’s best to plan on a larger budget. To help lower the average net price to $18,643, 96% of Kent State students accept financial assistance. The average net price is the remaining cost to the student after all of their financial aid has been applied.

Academics
One of the most appealing aspects of Kent State University is the many programs of study, which currently sits at over 340 programs from 11 colleges. Over 90 of these academic programs have a specialized accreditation. There are 166 active US research patents. The programs are also ripe with top rankings and awards, including in fashion, merchandising, podiatric medicine, architecture and environmental design, MBA, translation, and more.
To provide better educational opportunities and skill development, the university offers a wide array of centers and institutes including brain health, corporate and professional development, disability studies, entrepreneurship and business innovation, materials informatics, nuclear research, nursing research, journalism, teaching and learning, health preparedness, international and intercultural education, urban design, and many others. And students can choose from more than 200 study abroad programs in over 60 countries.
The four-year graduation rate is 51% and the six-year graduation rate is 61%. For a public university, the four-year rate is a bit higher than the national average and the six-year rate is a bit lower. The higher graduation rate in four years could be associated with the reasonable 20 to 1 student-to-faculty ratio, as well as the large number of career pathways from which to choose. The same may be true for the respectable 81% retention rate.
