Ohio Tuition Cost & Financial Aid

Much like most public higher learning institutions, Ohio University has varying tuition rates for non-residents and state residents, which are $22,406 and $12,612 each year, respectively. However, 94% of students receive financial assistance to provide some relief from the steep price tag of higher education. Another $17,000 will be necessary for books, supplies, room and board, and food each year.

Many students pursue financial aid that does not have to be paid back, such as scholarships and grants. Others choose student loans, which do have to be paid back. But don’t discount the option of scholarships for service. It’s also possible to offset expenses by working full-time or part-time jobs while students are in school. These jobs can be on-campus, online, or for local employers and paid internships can also help. Remember, these costs do not include extracurricular activities, entertainment options, sporting events, trips, dining out, etc.

Academics

A wide range of academic opportunities are available to Ohio students on-campus, online, and internationally. Students can pursue bachelor’s degrees, master's degrees, doctoral degrees, medical degrees, regional degrees, and participate in distance programs. Specialized colleges are offered in arts and sciences, international studies, business, fine arts, health sciences and professions, osteopathic medicine, engineering and technology, leadership and public affairs, and an honor college.

To ensure each student graduates with hands-on experience to boost employability, a number of centers and institutes are available in air quality, community engagement, scientific computing and immersive technologies, tropical disease, teaching and learning, literacy and language, law, and dozens more. It’s also possible to participate in academic competitions, study in another country, and secure a mentor.

Students enjoy a 17 to 1 student-to-educator ratio. The retention rate at Ohio University is a reasonable 82%. The graduation rates are lower than most public state schools with a four-year rate of graduation at 45% and a six-year rate at 65%. Part of the reason for the lower graduation rates could be due to the more difficult curriculum in a variety of degree offerings or it could also be partially due to the fact many degrees are of a professional nature that require longer time frames to complete in full.
