Overview of Colorado Mesa University (CMU)

Colorado Mesa University is a smaller university located in the small city of Grand Junction, Colorado. The student body is made up of both undergraduate and graduate students with certificates and degrees awarded at the associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels.

Students do have the opportunity to live in campus housing, giving freshman the opportunity to begin feeling at home on campus despite the 9,000+ student body. Because they are on-campus, they can be closer to events being put on by faculty, staff, and their fellow students.

Colorado is also full of outdoor recreational activities. Students who enjoy hiking will find areas nearby where they can indulge their love of nature; in fact, the town where the school is located is in a valley between two mountainous areas where you’ll find plenty of trails. Other opportunities are also available, such as museums and The Art Center.

On-campus, students are able to live in one of four dormitories and they can enjoy nearby restaurants and other shopping opportunities. The campus is well-designed, allowing students to find their way around quickly. Academic buildings and classrooms are scattered throughout the campus, with several located close to the dorms.

CMU Tuition Cost & Financial Aid

Students considering Colorado Mesa University may have cost at the top of their mind, as do many students these days. The first number students and their families usually find is the sticker price; this includes all costs and fees charged for a full year. Tuition (in- or out-of-state), books, supplies, room and board, and various other fees are all included in this and the total cost for a year is estimated at around $24,524 for in-state students and $38,073 for out-of-state students.

Beginning students who are looking for help from financial aid might hear about another number called the average net price. This is the total cost remaining to the student after financial aid is applied. For the 2019-2020 school year, this was $15,327. Because financial aid is awarded based on a family’s income, families making varying amounts will not end up paying the same. For example, a family earning $30,000 or less paid around $12,685, while a family earning more than $100,000 paid around $20,086.

The number of first-year students who qualified for financial aid totaled around 96%. Slightly less (91%) received $6,880 on average in grants or scholarship aid. And 54% still received school loans averaging $6,312.
