As for academics, NMC offers programs in up to eleven areas such as arts/film & media, technical trades, nursing & health sciences, and teacher education. Within each of those areas, NMC offers multiple degrees or certificates. In fact, NMC offers two engineering bachelor's degrees that have been nationally accredited by ABET, the gold standard for engineering programs. Engineering students can choose between information engineering technology and electromechanical engineering.

As for retention rate, 61% of the school’s first-time, full-time students return for a second year and 25% of its part-time students continue for a second year. When it comes to the graduation rate, Northern New Mexico College reports that only 22% receive a diploma from NNMC. However, another 53% are reported as transferring out to other institutions.
