NNMC Tuition Cost & Financial Aid

Northern New Mexico College's strong academics are a terrific value, especially once all the fees and expenses are accounted. Since NNMC is a public institution, New Mexico residents enjoy a lower cost of tuition. In fact, a full year of full-time studies at NNMC only costs state residents around $6,000 including tuition, books, supplies, and fees. For students who live in their own apartment, their total costs run approximately $19,000, which can vary depending on where and how a student chooses to live. For the new out-of-state students at NNMC, the total costs of a year in college can go as high as $28,000.

These costs may sound like a good deal, but the actual average net cost for NNMC students tells an even better story. For the lower-income students, the net cost for a year at NNMC is around $8,000. The highest earning households pay closer to $12,000. These numbers include a weighted average for room, board, and other costs.

Academics

The college experience encompasses many things, but academics are chief among them. Northern New Mexico College posts impressive academic statistics that bolster its reputation in the state, and nationally. On top of nationally accredited academic programs, NNMC reports great retention and graduation rates. As for retention rate, 61% of the school’s first-time, full-time students return for a second year and 25% of its part-time students continue for a second year. For a community college, these numbers are quite strong.

When it comes to the graduation rate, Northern New Mexico College reports that only 22% receive a diploma from NNMC. However, another 53% are reported as transferring out to other institutions. It's assumed that the transfer students take their strong academic background and enter a larger university to complete a bachelor's degree. Thus, NMC prepares students for success.

This success is surely built on the fact that NMC has such a fantastic student-to-teacher ratio. The college shows that, for every instructor, there are a mere 12 students in their charge. This figure might still mean that there are significantly more students in introductory courses, but once a student reaches their upper level courses the ratio may even dip below 12:1.
