Santa Monica College is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), and the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). The tuition cost at Santa Monica College varies depending on whether students are residents of California or not. Students who are residents of California can expect to pay $46 per unit. Students who are non-residents are required to pay an additional $316 in tuition each semester. In addition to tuition, all SMC students are also required to pay a $23 student health fee each semester. This fee supports the student health insurance program for SMC students living on and off campus. Students taking advanced classes must also pay an additional $84 per unit at the start of each semester.

SMC students who qualify for financial aid can receive federal and state grants or loans. In addition, eligible students under the Cal Grant program can receive Cal Grants to cover a portion of their tuition costs.
