The cost of attending the New School will depend on degree level, type of degree, and college selected. Tuition is charged by a flat tuition rate or a per-credit rate, depending on program and registration type. As of the 2023-2024 academic year, undergraduate students taking 12-18 credit hours can expect to pay between $18,997 and $27,794 per semester. Per credit tuition rates range from $1,289 to $1,873.

Graduate students also pay different rates depending on the school and program selected. These students can expect to pay between $17,439 and $28,504 per semester. Per credit tuition rates range from $1,838 to $2,339.

It’s important to note that all students are responsible for paying additional expenses such as books, supplies, housing meals, transportation, professional licensure/certification, and personal purchases. The New School does offer room and board options. University housing ranges from $18,534 to $29,203 per semester, plus a deposit. There are also many meal plans to choose from, with costs between $828 and $3,312 per semester. Additionally, all matriculated students in all programs are responsible for paying a $650 university services fee per semester. Other fees may apply as well, including a $160 orientation fee.

Notably, the national average is only 68%, and the school’s numbers indicate that most students enrolled at the university were happy enough with their experiences to return to the institution for a second year.

The overall graduation rate for full-time, first-time students who began their studies in fall 2015 was 70%, with a 13% transfer-out rate. Graduation rates indicate how frequently students complete their degrees or certificate programs within 150% of standard time, which is approximately six years. Most students strive to graduate within four years, however. Of those who started their education in 2015, 56% were able to graduate within this timeframe.

The New School is fully accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), which is recognized by the US Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Additionally, some colleges and programs are accredited by other agencies, associations, or professional organizations. More than half of the students enrolled at the institution take on internship opportunities while completing their studies. Of those who graduated in 2019, 87% went on to obtain professional employment or pursue further education within the first year.
