UNR Tuition Cost & Financial Aid

Educational costs are an item of top concern for most students and their families. Since University of Nevada – Reno is a publicly funded institution, costs are lower for state residents. Non-residents to the Reno campus must pay a significant premium, though participants in the Western Undergraduate Exchange may find their tuition rates fall a bit, if not all the way to in-state levels. Regardless, the posted gross costs for tuition, books, and academic fees rise to just under $10,000 for Nevada residents. Non-residents pay upwards of $27,000. When living costs are tallied, the gross price tag for residents hovers below $27,000, and non-residents see gross costs of under $43,000.

Gross costs are just the start of the story, however. The financial aid office is able to corral those costs by applying grants and scholarships to the bottom line. They can thus bring down the average net cost to $16,000. Lower-earning households actually have an average net price of $12,000, including of all living costs. Meanwhile, households that report income in excess of $110,001 pay under $20,000 for a year of learning and living on the UN-Reno campus.

Academics

Most people go to Reno for reasons that aren't very serious. However, University of Nevada – Reno students defy that trend by being serious students who happen to live on a fun campus. Researchers were eager to discover whether a serious academic program could thrive in a city known for decadence. In fact, they found that UN-R's academics were top-notch. To show this, researchers investigated the school's retention rate, graduation rate, and other educational statistics.

The retention rate is an important metric that reflects how many first-time, full-time students return to campus for a second year. Researchers were happy to find that UN-R students return at a rate of 78%, which is a solid number. Those students then work hard and complete their degrees at a rate of 63%, around the national average. On top of this, UN-R reports that 15% of students successfully enrolled in other institutions. Since those students were surely highly motivated, researchers suppose that they relied on their UN-R foundation to thrive and graduate elsewhere. Thus, it can be said that up to 78% of UN-R students are well prepared to graduate from college.

UN-R helps them form this foundation with a strong faculty and a student-to-faculty ratio that is only 17 to 1. Whether a first-year student taking core courses or a fourth-year student involved in a seminar course, UN-R students all have easy access to their instructors.
