The type of programs offered range from criminal justice and sport management to education and science.

Student life is at the forefront of the entire academic experience at Blackburn, including counseling, activities and events, community and student engagement, and much more. It is also possible to participate in any number of student clubs and the student senate. Students can participate in NCAA Division III sports including basketball, baseball, soccer, softball, golf, and more. Blackburn College tuition is the same for both in-state and out-of-state students at $23,510 each year. One should expect to budget for another $10,000 to cover basic living expenses and other school-specific costs that aren’t included in tuition including room and board, books, lab fees, cafeteria plan, etc. Almost every student receives some form of financial aid to help minimize the cost of higher education.

The school offers a variety of scholarships, as well as links to scholarships from external sources. Financial aid packages are also available for transfer students and a growing number of students choose to find jobs as a way to pay for living expenses while they complete programs. These jobs might be on-campus or off-campus in the community.

The specializations at Blackburn College are varied to meet the needs of each student. The primary areas of study are criminal justice, sport management, psychology, computer science, education, and biology. Each area has a number of additional majors such as art, pre-med, business management, leadership, theater, cyber security, game design, pre-law, political science, and more.

Each program offers students an elevated experience and results. The criminal justice program has a 95% job placement rate in their field of study. Program participants in the sport management program will have access to the most thorough program in the state. Individuals who are interested in education can select from over a dozen education majors. And science majors will have access to top labs, facilities, and award-winning instructors.

Students will also have access to various academic resources to improve end results such as peer tutors, study sessions and a writer’s block program to assist individuals who require assistance with paper writing. Despite these value-added offerings, the retention rate at Blackburn College is only 57%, and the four-year and six-year graduation rates are lower than average at 29% and 41%, respectively. The reasons for such low rates could be related to a large number of transfer students, or some students might work and take classes at the same time, which often results in taking longer to complete degrees.

Hands-on experience in an academic setting, tied with student employment opportunities, makes Blackburn College students highly desirable job candidates upon graduation. Blackburn offers a student success center as well. Within this center, students can become academic tutors or employees for various departments. Essentially, these students manage the daily operations of the university in a variety of ways. These positions also allow students to engage and integrate with more students and faculty.

To provide even more experiential learning and work experience, students have extensive access to research and laboratory opportunities. Students can also work in faculty offices, in food services, in the library, at the snack bar, or within technology services. And students can take advantage of the many career development resources including resumes, cover letters, interviews, grad school preparation, internships, and more.
