Tuition Cost & Financial Aid
Daytona State College is a public institution. As such, it is funded by Florida resident’s taxes, who benefit from lower tuition rates than those from out of state. These in-state students pay less than $5,000 for a year of tuition, fees, supplies, and books. When their estimated living expenses are included in the total, the gross cost of a year at DS is a mere $15,000. However, this number is even lower once financial aid packages are accounted for.
In fact, the net cost falls to almost half the gross cost after financial aid is applied. This is called the average net cost and, for a DS student, this is $7,700 per year, which presents a terrific educational value. Students whose families have lower incomes pay around $7,500, and the highest income students still only pay $13,000 for a year. This is due to the grants and scholarships DS students receive. A full 61% of DS students receive grants or scholarship assistance that average over $5,000 per student.

Daytona State College is primarily an institution that caters to students on their way to a larger university. They offer some bachelor's degrees, but they primarily confer associate degrees and certificates to help students get a leg up in the working world. Their academic numbers aren't like those of, say, Florida State but nevertheless, Daytona State still posts very positive numbers.
They graduate 42% of their students, a number that is somewhat low but further bolstered by an 11% transfer-out rate. That transfer rate indicates that those students have a strong academic foundation that they take to other institutions, such as the University of Florida. Furthermore, these statistics track students who began as full-time students. Since many community college students enroll on a part-time basis when they start, there may be more who either complete their studies at Daytona State or who transfer to another institution to complete their degrees.
Regardless of who is counted as a transfer or a graduate, Daytona State maintains a strong roster of programs. They also offer students a terrific environment for learning. The average classroom on campus has only 20 students. This is exactly the sort of nurturing educational environment students need to thrive.
