ETSU students also have time to explore other interests than their academic and career ambitions. Campus life offers innumerable social, cultural, and athletic/recreational opportunities that stimulate more than just the cerebral cortex. Indeed, after class students can head to the Basler Center to get a workout, take a martial arts class, play racquetball or squash, or take a healthy swim. There is also a climbing wall for top rope climbing or bouldering. Outdoors, students enjoy sports on the intramural field, the 9-hole disc golf course, and the university woods trail system.

Competitive students will love the intramural opportunities on campus. Intramural sports include basketball, volleyball, and slow pitch softball. For students who would like a higher level of competition against students from other schools, there is the option to form a team and compete as a club sport. Students might form a club sport around rugby, tennis, disc golf, or E-sports, to name a few options. Students who have a passion for a sport that is not currently offered can contact the sport club staff on campus and work with staff to add a team.

ETSU Tuition Cost & Financial Aid

Students and their families may be stunned to see what a terrific educational value East Tennessee State University has to offer. Since ETSU is a public institution of higher education, they can offer Tennessee state residents a terrific value in return for their tax dollars. These residents pay only $10,000 for a year of full-time studies including books, supplies, and other academic costs. Meanwhile, non-Tennessee residents pay around $29,000 for the same services. Once living costs are tallied, residents face a total gross price tag of around $25,000. Non-residents pay upwards of $43,000. However, this does not factor in the work of the financial aid office.

After all applicable grants and scholarships are applied, a full year of study at ETSU carries a net price tag of just over $13,000. This figure falls below $10,000 for the school's lowest income students and exceeds $17,000 for households with income in excess of $110,000. Median income families pay only around $15,000, a terrific educational value.

Academics

East Tennessee State University may boast one of the most beautiful academic settings for a student, but they also have much to be proud of when it comes to academics. When educational researchers evaluate this public, four-year institution, they find very strong academic numbers. Our researchers evaluated ETSU's retention rate, graduation rate, and transfer-out rate, among other numbers when determining its overall scholastic strength.

The retention rate is a figure that reflects how many first-time, full-time students return to campus for a second year. When students return, researchers interpret that as indication of high satisfaction from the students and their families. Since ETSU reports a stellar retention rate of 78%, students can be assured that they will be pleased with what they find on campus.

When it comes to overall graduation numbers, ETSU also reports other relatively strong statistics. The institution reports an overall graduation rate of 50%. This figure is quite strong for any public university and is only made more appealing when you consider the 24% transfer out rate. That is, when students are able to transfer, they often do so to leave for more competitive schools. They also may desire a specific degree or facilities that ETSU does not support. Regardless, their ability to use their ETSU transcript as a springboard to lifelong success is a testament to ETSU's academics.
