Marist College Tuition Cost & Financial Aid

Given that Marist is a private institution, its tuition fees are also quite high, with a full annual price tag of $58,150 between tuition and housing expenses for students living on campus in 2018-2019. However, students should note that 92% of students attending Marist will receive some type of financial aid through scholarships, grants, and loans. On average, students received around $18,600 in grant aid in 2018-2019 and took out around $9,600 in student loans to cover the cost of attendance. The result is an average net price of attendance of $38,715 for the 2018-2019 school year, which is significantly less than the full price tag. The fact that Marist provides thousands of dollars in financial aid to students so that they can attend college is a testament to the fact that the college aims to support students in their pursuit of higher education. The slight drawback is that for students coming from families earning $0-30,000, the average net price of attendance after financial aid was still around $24,000 a year in 2018-2019, so financial aid alone will not be able to cover all expenses. Students from lower-income backgrounds may need to take out additional student loans to cover the cost of attending.

Academics

Marist College is a relatively selective school, with less than 50% of applicants granted admission in the 2019-2020 admissions cycle. Students who do enroll at the school can experience a 16 to 1 student-to-faculty ratio, which allows for many small classes, especially as you reach your junior and senior years in your major. This allows students to have a closer relationship with their professors, which can be important to build relationships for mentorship and to secure strong letters of recommendation for graduate school and job applications beyond college. Similarly, smaller classes allow students to build a stronger bond with their classmates and immerse themselves in a network of close friends during college. Overall, MC also boasts a high retention rate of 88%, meaning that the vast majority of students who are beginning their bachelor’s degree for the first time return to the school in the second year of their degree. The retention rate signals to potential students that most students at Marist enjoy their college experience, both academically and socially, and are willing to come back their second year to continue their schooling rather than drop out. This strong academic footing is corroborated by Marist’s 84% graduation rate, which shows that students can expect their investment of time, money, and effort into their postsecondary education to translate into a college degree a few years in the future. Likewise, the high graduation rate signals to potential students that Marist’s faculty want their students to succeed and come out of their studies with a college degree to show for their time and efforts.
