Academics

Academics are at the forefront of the Marshall experience with over 150 program opportunities including 2 associate degrees, 57 bachelor’s degrees, 52 master’s degrees, 2 education specialist degrees, 4 doctoral degrees, and 3 first professional degrees. It’s also possible for high school students to complete college courses at Marshall. All of these courses offer an average class size of 20 and a student-to-faculty ratio of 18 to 1.

The schools and colleges within the university programs are diverse, such as business, arts and media, education and professional development, health professions, medicine, pharmacy, engineering and computer sciences, adult and continuing education, and others. It’s also possible for students to enroll in the honors college as a way to experience an even more challenging and demanding curriculum. All students have access to the 200 student exchange programs throughout the US and Canada as well as study abroad programs. Students will also have access to legal assistance, veteran and military support, and student engagement and community programs.

Marshall University students graduate within four years at a rate of 27% and at a rate of 49% over six years. The retention rate is 73%. Most of these figures are slightly below the national average. In part, these figures may be lower due to the fact that a growing number of students are pursuing degrees online. Another reason may be that Marshall has a significant portion of adult and continual learning students who work while they complete degrees or only attend courses in order to maintain existing certification, with no plan to complete a full degree program.

Outcome & Salary

To give students a career advantage, Marshall provides an Office of Career Education. One of the perks is that the office will preload a Handshake profile on behalf of each student to help ease in the transition process from an older service. The office will also help with resume and cover letter creation, interview preparation, and skill development. Mentorship and networking opportunities are available from the extensive alumni pool.

Alumni can also use the career services to post jobs from their employers and to seek new employment of their own. Today, most career services are available online such as mock interviews, career videos, job searches, professional development, and networking. There is also a job prep day, sponsored career dressing event, etiquette dinners, and more.
