One unique advantage at MMA is for individuals who wish to pursue a career in marine transportation or marine engineering. These students will have the opportunity to complete a sea term for all four years. In fact, all students will spend some time on the training ship in their first year. Another opportunity for MMA students is to participate in experiential learning journeys that are typically held in another country. Throughout the course of one’s entire academic career at MMA, students will participate in several hands-on practices that fall in line with the university’s philosophy of “Learn, Do, Learn”.

All programs are accredited, and the entire campus has advanced technology to ensure graduates leave with the necessary skills and tools required to succeed. It is important to note that the campus is to be entirely free of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. Students will have to participate in periodic drug screening for all four years. Despite the strict code, roughly 40% of students participate in athletics for the ECAC and NCAA Division III sports teams. Intramural sports and extracurricular activities are also available on campus. This is the ideal school for students who want extra focus and structure during their collegiate experience, as well as those with an interest in math, science, and the environment.

Cadets at MMA have a retention rate of 86%, with a 63% and 76% graduation rate over four and six years respectively. The school offers seven majors, nine minors, and three concentrations. Majors for MMA students include marine transportation, emergency management, international maritime business, facilities engineering, marine engineering, energy systems engineering, marine safety, and environmental protection. Graduate programs are available in facilities management, maritime business management, and emergency management.

Programs prepare students to begin a career as soon as they graduate. These advantages come from the rigorous curriculum alongside licensures, certifications, sustainable solutions, risk assessment capabilities, and more. The college also offers dual enrollment for high school students to take college courses at the same time. A STEM program is available for K-12 teachers, as well as a STEM program for future women leaders. Workshops are open to all.

Transfer students and international students are also welcome. However, certain outcomes will be different for non-US citizens or green card holders. One such example is that a non-US citizen who graduates and completes the Coast Guard examination will not receive a license. They will, however, receive an accreditation letter and a graduation certificate that will translate to a Coast Guard license in other countries.

An estimated, and impressive, 95% of graduates find job placement within their field of study within 90 days of graduation. In part, this can be attributed to the department of career services. This center works with students to find relevant internships and the right full-time jobs. The college offers a career fair twice a year to bring employers and potential employees together and some students decide to pursue military service or a graduate degree.

Many graduates choose to work within the maritime sector at sea or on land. However, others select non-maritime careers. Some positions that individuals secure are within engineering, equipment installation, design, management, distribution, and systems. Of the military branches graduates can join, most choose the Navy followed closely by the Marines. Some top employers include Portsmouth Naval Shipyards, Raytheon, Royal Caribbean Cruises, and General Electric.
