At Florida State College in Jacksonville, students can select from 45 associate degrees, 13 bachelor’s degrees, and over 100 workforce and technical certificates. Many of the associate degrees are created on the premise that students will, at some point, transfer to a four-year degree program. It’s important to note that, while five campuses are available to all students, each campus provides unique core courses that are not available at all campuses. However, students also have the choice to complete various degrees and programs online without having to attend in-person classes at a designated campus. Accelerated degrees are also available to complete in as little as 18 months.
The types of degrees and programs vary greatly. Some of the most popular degrees are within business, education, arts, humanities, communication, and design. There are also offerings in health sciences, public safety, industry, manufacturing, and construction. STEM degrees are also growing in popularity, as well as growing in degree and program offerings. It’s also possible to pursue continuing workforce education, grant programs, and career certificates such as aerospace, medicine, and construction at Florida State.
Educational, professional, and personal enrichment is important at FSCJ. As such, the college has partnered with a number of businesses and organizations to provide more experiential learning opportunities. The college also encourages participation in leadership, cultural, social activities, and events for a more well-rounded experience. Students should expect larger class sizes, at least in the first couple years of their time in college, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 25 to 1. And the on-time graduation rate is 38%, which is below the national average. The reason for a lower graduation rate may be due to number of students working full-time jobs as they complete degrees or the number who attend part-time whether they work or not.
