Tuition rates at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte vary based on residency and enrollment status. For North Carolina residents enrolled in undergraduate programs full-time, the estimated cost of tuition is $3,812 per year. Non-residents, on the other hand, will owe $17,936 in tuition per year. Notably, both student groups are also responsible for paying $3,402 in associated fees.
Notably, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte implemented the Fixed Tuition program for students enrolled beginning in Fall 2016. This program allows eligible, in-state undergraduate students to lock in the same tuition rate for a specific period of continuous enrollment. This only includes tuition, however, as fees may be increased annually.
Tuition and fees are different for graduate students. These individuals are billed by the credit hour, with amounts varying based on program, education level, and residency. North Carolina residents enrolled in nine graduate credit hours can expect to pay approximately $3,869 per semester, while non-residents with the same course load will owe about $10,942. Notably, however, some of the institution’s colleges do charge additional fees. These include the College of Arts and Architecture, College of Computing and Informatics, and College of Engineering.
Prospective students should also be prepared to pay for books, supplies, housing, meals, transportation, and other miscellaneous expenses. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte estimates that most undergraduates will spend $1,000 on books and supplies each year, as well as $2,008 on transportation and $1,434 on other needs. While those enrolled can choose to live off campus, the institution does offer on-campus housing and meal plans. Housing on-campus for one academic year will cost approximately $9,000, while meals will cost about $3,896 for the same period.

Nearly 75% of those enrolled receive financial aid in the form of grants, scholarships, loans, and student employment. In addition to federal aid offered to those who complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the University of North Carolina at Charlotte also awards more than 1,600 scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students each year. Despite this, approximately 50% of full-time undergraduate students required some amount of financial assistance from student loans during the 2020-2021 academic year.
