California State University - Long Beach makes every effort to keep students costs as low as possible. However, the cost of attending will greatly depend on student residency and whether or not on campus student housing is necessary. For the 2020-2021 academic year, in-state undergraduate students enrolled full-time (12 credits hours or more) spent approximately $3,425 on tuition and mandatory fees per semester. Out-of-state students, on the other hand, spent about $8,169 per semester.

Students must also anticipate the cost of housing and meals while enrolled. California residents living on campus were charged $13,158 per year for these accommodations, while out-of-state students were charged $24,194. Additional expenses, such as books and supplies needed throughout the year, are not included. Graduate students, as well as those pursing a teacher credential, EdD Education degree, or Doctorate in physical therapy pay more for tuition and fees. A semester of classes ranges anywhere from $3,884 to $9,152 for in-state students.

Students can choose from programs within the following colleges and departments:

A total of nearly 1,100 faculty members and 200+ graduate assistants oversee instruction on and off campus. The student-to-faculty ratio is 26:1, with approximately 20% of classes having fewer than 20 individuals signed up at a time. Larger class sizes can mean it’s somewhat more difficult for students to receive one-on-one attention during instruction. Professors are, however, always available to answer questions and provide advice during scheduled office hours.

As of 2019, the California State University - Long Beach campus had an average first-year undergraduate retention rate of 87% for full-time students and 63% for part-time students. These statistics are significant, as they provide indicate how satisfied students are overall after their first academic years. Additionally, the university has an overall graduation rate of 74% and a transfer-out rate of only 2%. While only 26% of those who began pursuing bachelor’s degrees in the fall of 2013 graduated within four years, 74% of individuals enrolled at that time graduated within six years.

As a whole, the university is regionally accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission. It’s important to note, however, that some programs have sought and attained additional accreditation. The majority of full-time, first-time degree-seeking undergraduate students enrolled at California State University - Long Beach graduate.
