CSUS Tuition Cost & Financial Aid

Though California's publicly funded colleges and universities are all reasonably priced, every student and their family needs to formulate a budget and a financial strategy to fund an excellent bachelor's degree. These low costs are unfortunately not available to all students. Non-California residents who aren't a part of the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) must pay out-of-state tuition prices.

California residents and those included in the WUE, such as students from Alaska or Oregon, are fortunate enough to pay less than $9,000 for a year's worth of books, tuition, and fees at Sacramento State. Out-of-state students, on the other hand, pay just under $21,000. Once living costs are added to the tally, in-state students face a gross price tag of between $27,000 and $29,000. Out-of-state scholars face gross costs between $39,000 and $41,000. However, gross prices aren't the whole story.

In fact, the average net price of education at Sac State is a mere $10,000. This is the cost left for students to pay after their financial aid is finalized and applied to their tuition costs. That price falls to just under $7,000 for lower income households. At the top end, households that make over $100,000 face net costs of under $19,000.

Academics

California students are fortunate to have so many strong, publicly funded colleges and universities. California State University’s Sacramento campus is no exception. While some students may choose Sac State based on factors such as its cost, location, sports teams, or a family tradition of attendance, there are strong academic reasons to apply and enroll. When students take a close look at the educational statistics this becomes evident.

Sacramento State's retention and graduation rates are both strong reasons to attend. The retention rate is a measure of how many first-time, full-time students return to the same campus for their second year. When students return, it’s assumed that they and their families are pleased with the school's curriculum, faculty, and campus resources, among other factors. Since Sac State reports a retention rate of 83%, they join the ranks of some of America's best colleges and universities. Even their part-time students are very pleased, and 60% return to continue their schooling at Sac State.

The graduation rate is also quite good at Sac State. Their statistics show that 55% of students stay all the way through to graduation. This number likewise rivals many of America's top universities. Thus, Sac State is not only a strong Cal State school but a strong contender nationwide.
