YSU Tuition Cost & Financial Aid
Youngstown State University is funded by Ohio taxpayers, so they will find a lower tuition rate than their out-of-state peers, though not by much. Interestingly, tuition rates are virtually identical for in-state and out-of-state students at Youngstown. Each pays around $11,000 for a year of classes, books, and academic fees. This is a great value, but room and board is still an issue. Youngstown State estimates living costs of just under $10,000, with total costs, including tuition, for both on and off-campus living coming in under $25,000. However, the financial aid office still has yet to apply its grants and scholarships to this number.
After all applicable discounts are tallied, the average net price for a year at Youngstown is just over $12,000. This number falls to $8,500 for the lower income households and doesn't break $17,000 for students from high earning households. Middle-income households still pay under $14,000 for a year of living and learning at YSU.

Popular Academic Programs at YSU
Youngstown State University has so much to offer its students. Since 1908, YSU has been preparing students for an adult life full of success and fulfillment. Thus, students flock to the campus based on things like a family history of attendance and the school's general reputation for excellence. However, our researchers decided to look into the statistics that support these reasons. They unearthed figures for YSU's retention rate, graduation rate, and student-to-faculty ratios.
The retention rate measures how many first-time, full-time students return to campus for their second year. A high rate indicates that students and their families are pleased with the school's curriculum, faculty, and campus resources, among other factors. Since YSU reports a very competitive 75% retention rate, researchers were impressed. Then the graduation rate comes in a bit lower than you like to see at 47%, with 19% reported as transferring elsewhere. Researchers see transfer students as highly motivated individuals who transfer to another campus in order to find the exact program they desire, and significant numbers graduate from these new programs. Thus, researchers can add transfers to the graduation rate to find that somewhere around 66% of Youngstown students graduate from college, whether in Youngstown or elsewhere.
These stellar numbers may be attributed to a number of factors, but one standout is the student-to-faculty ratio. Youngstown reports an average class size of only 17 students. For such a large, public institution, this is very impressive. Students at YSU are thus assured of a satisfactory, nurturing, academic experience.
