The student population is small, with just over 1,800 students, the majority of whom are undergraduates. Students will be able to pursue bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, doctoral degrees, and adult accelerated programs. Online programs are becoming more and more common with each passing year. Students have access to a variety of programs including business, nursing, education, and criminal justice. It’s even possible to complete some undergraduate programs in as little as three years and students will be able to complete experiential learning projects in almost every course to receive a tremendous advantage when it comes time to seek full-time employment.

Community, diversity, inclusion, and academic excellence are at the cornerstone of each program and the overall college experience at Mount Mercy. To meet these criteria, students will have access to the thousands of alumni in the region, country, and worldwide. Opportunities to give back to the community through volunteering and service are extensive, as well as to participate in almost 30 student organizations and clubs. Environmental responsibility is encouraged in every way and faith-based options are also available. It is also possible to participate in highly successful collegiate sports programs.

Individuals who attend Mount Mercy undergraduate programs can expect a cost of $33,862 for tuition annually. This figure can be reduced greatly with the help of financial aid. In fact, 100% of students at Mount Mercy receive financial assistance of some sort including grants, scholarships, and student loans. With the help of this assistance, the average net price drops to $20,977. Keep in mind that students will still be responsible for another $15,000 or so to pay for basic living expenses. And these numbers do not include the cost of socializing and entertainment off-campus such as day trips, meals out, nightlife, streaming costs, etc.

Mount Mercy offers tuition discounts and a wide array of scholarships to help make the academic experience more affordable. Regional employers receive a 10% discount for their employees to continue their education. Students, or anyone, can receive $600 for referring individuals for specific programs. And dozens of scholarships and grants are available, including those for freshman, transfer students, international students, out-of-state students, music students, creative students, athletes, business students, social work students, catholic students, and more.

A well-rounded and exceptional education can be expected at Mount Mercy University. This higher learning institution continues to evolve with the times so that all graduates have the best chance at success upon graduation. Students can choose from almost 50 majors and minors, over 10 online and evening programs, and 8 advanced degree options. Many programs are specifically targeted toward working adults so that everyone has the option to continue their education at Mount Mercy. Some of the most popular programs include accounting, finance, international business, strategic leadership, nursing, education, psychology, marketing, sports management, and sustainability and corporate responsibility.

All program participants will have access to unique learning opportunities and certain programs are available to complete degrees in three years. This allows students to participate in accelerated programs to minimize the time and money it takes to complete an undergraduate degree in full. A number of adult accelerated programs are also available, which allow working adults to complete evening programs in as little as five weeks. Program participants must have at least three years of work experience to qualify. It’s also possible to begin taking master’s courses during an undergraduate degree to speed up the process of completing both. And all programs center around social responsibility, ethical leadership, and service.

Mount Mercy University has a respectable retention rate of 75%. The four-year and six-year graduation rates of 51% and 64% are right around the national average. One of the reasons the graduation rates may not be higher is due to the fact many students are working adults who do not take as many courses at one time as younger, full-time students.

At Mount Mercy, 98% of graduates find professional jobs or begin graduate school in no more than 9 months. Part of this success can be directly attributed to the fact that 75% of students complete internships or additional work experiences that are related to future career pathways. Another reason is that between 4,000 and 5,000 alumni live and work in the immediate region of the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City Corridor. This strong alumni network commits to working with current Mount Mercy students as mentors and continually hires recent graduates. Graduates and alumni live in almost 25 different countries.

Career services are also available to assist with preparing students for professional life. Students will be able to have access to workshops, club presentations, resume writing assistance, grad school prep, interviewing practice, salary negotiation, and strategies for job searching. It’s also possible to attend career fairs for each specialized department and participate in activities and events that provide growth in the personal, spiritual, and professional lives of all, which includes a vast assortment of short-term and long-term volunteering opportunities.
