In-state New Mexico State University students enrolled full-time in undergraduate programs will pay $8,409 for the 2022-2023 academic year. Out-of-state students, however, will pay $26,735. These rates are based on student enrollment in 15 credit hours of courses. The graduate cost of attendance is different. Residents enrolled in nine credit hours will pay $6,189, while non-residents will pay $19,032.

Tuition and fees are not the only expenses, however. New Mexico State University expects students to pay approximately $5,200 on meals, $6,052 on housing, $1,240 on academic supplies (including books), $1,742 on transportation, and $2,538 on other personal expenses. This brings the total cost of attending the institution approximately $22,961 for in-state students and $35,804 for out-of-state students during the 2022-2023 academic year.

New Mexico State University does offer scholarships and financial aid options to help students pay for college. All students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to determine the total amount of aid available. The retention rate for first-time, full-time, undergraduate freshmen who began their studies in 2019 was 75%. This is above the national average of 68% for the entire nation. The rate for part-time bachelor’s students lower, however, totaling 37%. Overall, this data indicates that most students enrolled at the university chose to return in 2020 for further education.

The graduation rate for students who began their studies in fall 2015 was 50%. This means about half of students were able to complete requirements within 150% of normal time, which is six years. Notably, only about 26% of these students graduated within four years.

New Mexico State University conducts several surveys in order to assess the effectiveness of programs offered, including an alumni survey and a post-graduation placement survey. Based on data provided by 2014 graduates, 80% had jobs, 14% were attending graduate school, and 12% were still looking for jobs. The remaining graduates had joined the military, were working for non-profit organizations, or were taking personal time to themselves. The majority of graduates lived in New Mexico or El Paso, although 42% resided in other states or countries. According to PayScale, the average base salary for New Mexico State University graduates is $54,000 per year.
