For those who can't make it to Birmingham for their degree, UA-B is also online. Undergraduates have many options for an online bachelor's degree including but not limited to human resource management, criminal justice, psychology, or information systems. For those who may already have a degree or who simply wish to increase their knowledge base online, UAB offers 12 minor programs that may be applied towards a second degree or to simply add to a resume.

UAB is also a fun place to live and study. There are university recreation programs for everyone including intramural competitive sports, outdoor adventures, and fitness certifications. While many love structured activities, students can also drop by the Campus Recreation Center to swim laps, climb on the wall, play racquetball (or squash or badminton), and engage in less demanding pursuits such as billiards, PlayStation, Wii, and table tennis.

UAB is a public university. As such, the school can offer an affordable education for Alabama residents. Out-of-state students must pay higher tuition rates, but even those reflect a terrific educational value. In fact, in-state students pay just under $10,000 for their tuition, books, supplies, and other associate academic fees. Their out-of-state friends pay over $21,000, which is still less than what many private universities charge for a similar education. However, after financial aid is accounted for, students see that the net price of a UAB education falls significantly. The average student sees a net price (cost after financial aid is applied) of only $17,000. Lower-income students have a net cost of $14,000 and the top income bracket's cost is $19,000. The difference is caused by the fact that financial aid is mostly awarded based on income and need.

University of Alabama at Birmingham is a terrific public institution that delivers first-class academics to its students. While academic value can be experienced in a variety of ways, often subjective, it's possible to see that value reflected in the cold, hard numbers. In particular, we can look at the retention and graduation rates as a measure of student satisfaction. The retention rate is a number that measures the percentage of first-year students that return for a second year at UAB. In fact, UAB's 83% retention of its first-year, full-time students is phenomenal. The school also reports 59% retention of its part-time students.
