Academics
The academic infrastructure and modeling at NC State University center around theory, practice, research, leadership, and innovation. As part of the hands-on practicum, students will work on real-life projects some of the 70 private and public partnerships available to students, including the development of smart electric grids, self-powered health devices, the elimination of nuclear practices, agricultural climate change, self-heating and cooling clothing, new US-based manufacturing, and more.
Students will be able to choose from 12 colleges and dozens of majors such as agricultural sciences, engineering, business, life sciences, technology, humanities, environmental and natural resources, education and teaching, recreation, tourism, and sport. The same industry partnerships that provide coordinated projects with classes also offer co-ops and internships. Students can pursue academic prowess at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. At the graduate level, students can complete professional degrees in law, medicine, and business.
STEM and entrepreneurship programs, activities, events, and opportunities are also widely available and commonly pursued at NC State. Programs include a variety of competitions, laboratories, and more for students to excel in their fields before they even graduate. Overall, there is a 94% retention rate, as well as a 57% graduation rate for four years and an 83% six-year rate of graduation. While the retention rate is quite positive, students should prepare for the fact they may not be able to graduate in four years without a solid academic strategy.

A student career center is available to all students to help with job placement upon graduation. It is highly common for NC State students to begin seeking employment six months prior to graduation. Nearly half of all graduates plan to remain in North Carolina.
