The group acknowledges the rising costs of education and the increased difficulty that cost places on US families. The program awards about 600 students annually with a national winner at $5,000, 24 finalists at $5,500, and 575 semifinalists who receive $3,200. Students must apply through their local sponsors. All members of the National Honor Society are eligible.
